My research interests fall primarily into two areas: teacher knowledge development for effective technology integration and the innovation in K-12 schools. I see these areas as tightly connected. It’s difficult to design innovative learning experiences or integrate technology effectively in classroom teaching without understanding how content, pedagogical, and technology knowledge is interdependent.

I strive to understand ways to help preservice and inservice teachers to develop this TPACK knowledge in practical, manageable ways. One way that Judi Harris and I have been exploring for a few years now is a learning activities based approach to planning for technology integration. In collaboration with teacher educators in the major curriculum areas (e.g. math, science, world languages) we have developed a series of learning activity types taxonomies available online at the Activity Types Wiki. We plan to continue efforts to research how using this approach may help both preservice and practicing teachers develop their TPACK.
